A More Beautiful Gospel 

Most of us were born and raised believing if there is a crime, it must be punished. Without even realizing it we obtain this obsession with retribution and just give lip service to restoration. We believe sin is a legal infraction, deserving of correction. It may come as a surprise to some that sin, in its true sense, is a disease not a misbehavior. 

You cannot spank a fever out of a four-year-old. You cannot incarcerate a man with cancer in hopes to cure him. When sin entered the world it did not come as a dysfunctional behavior. It came as an all consuming disease. Do not water down sin to misbehavior, and please do not water down the Good News to behavior modification. 

The Gospel is so much more beautiful than the stories we have been sold. Come and see what God's goodness is really all about, and begin healing from our obsession with retribution.

A More Beautiful Gospel: Church..? 

"ALL" means "ALL." If we don't understand this then we spend or whole lives drawing dividing "lines" rather than "circles" of invitation. The enormity of the the cross was enough to reconcile "ALL." The Apostle Paul now charges us to to deliver this good news to the whole world and lived reconciled.

Isn't it interesting how those that don't want circles are the ones drawing the lines? 

The gospel isn't about you saying a prayer and joining the winning camp. It's about awakening to the fact that you've already been reconciled to God's family. Let's break the "us" vs. "them" paradigm and stand in the doorway ready to welcome others into the revelation in the circle, rather than mark down how your denomination is better than theirs.

In one of Jesus' most venerable moments why would he yell, "My God, My God why have you forsaken me?" Could God not really bear the sight of Jesus becoming sin? Was it God imposing His wrath on Jesus so you could be forgiven? What does this say about us when we sin? If He turned His back on Jesus what do you think He will do to us?

Turns out there is a lot of contextual gold that has been lost as the modern western Church has warped this verse out of context and into a false theology. Not only was Jesus still one with God on the cross, but he was sending one final message that would leave those mocking him speechless.

But what about the "how"? How did it happen? And why is it so important? 

Knowing the "what" of the gospel doesn't do much for our practical lives, but knowing the "how" transforms us from spectators to participators... or perhaps true believers?
